Dhaka, March 10: At around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, a Dutch-Bangla Bank cash vehicle was robbed at Uttara in the capital. At this time, 11 crore 20 lakh taka was taken away. After eight hours of this incident, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) police recovered about nine crore taka.

Meanwhile, seven people, including two directors of Money Plan Link Securities Company Limited, have been arrested.

According to police sources, an armed gang surrounded the car and took away the money. The vehicle was going from Dhaka to Savar EPZ to deposit money in the booth.

DB says this is a planned incident. The robbers were planning to extort the money long in advance. Additional Commissioner of Police Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid, Head of Intelligence Department of DMP told this to reporters in front of Hotel La Meridien in Uttara of the capital on Thursday evening.

He said that the car left from Mirpur-12 on Thursday morning. The robbers stopped the car on its way to Uttara. A total of six people were engaged in carrying money in that car. The robbers beat them up and fled with the car and four boxes of cash. The four boxes contained a total of Tk 11 crore 20 lakhs.

The DB chief said that the team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police went to the spot immediately after receiving the news. Patrols were quickly set up in different parts of the capital. With the help of various police stations, DB members started working to recover the money and catch the robbers. At one stage, seven people were arrested along with three boxes while fleeing from the Uttara area.

Haroon Or Rashid said that the incident of robbery was planned, "The robbers were following the money transfer of Money Plan Link Securities Company Limited for many days. The robbers did not have any weapons."

He said, "We have got the names of several people in this incident. Seven people, including two directors of Money Plan Link Securities Company Limited, have been arrested. Details can be given after their interrogation."
