Bank Robbery Dutch-Bangla money heist: Mastermind Sohail arrested
Dhaka, March 18: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Intelligence Department has arrested the mastermind Sohail Rana (33) in the robbery of Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd. He was arrested from Hemayetpur in Savar on Friday, March 17. Meanwhile, 87.5 lakh taka was recovered from him. Sohail was the driver of Money Plant Link Private Limited Company.
Twelve people have been arrested so far. And out of 11.25 crore taka, 7 crore 89 lakh 6 thousand taka have been recovered so far in four phases. In the last phase, 87.5 lakh taka was recovered.
Additional Commissioner of Police Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid, Head of Intelligence Department of DMP told this to reporters at his office on Saturday. He said that Sohail Rana is one of the main planners of this incident. He was once a driver for the Money Plant Link Company. Being a driver, he knew about the details of the company's money transfer. Sohail Rana also made fake keys of stolen cars while he was the driver. An ID card of Money Plant Link Private Limited Company was recovered from him.
Haroon Or Rashid also said that on the day of the incident, Tk 3 crore 89 lakh 50 thousand was recovered but there was no arrest. Then on March 11, 2 crore 53 lakh 99 thousand taka was recovered and 8 people were arrested. Later on March 14, DB arrested three people with Tk 58 lakh 7 thousand. Last Friday, Sohail Rana was arrested with a microbus worth Tk 20 lakh and 87 lakh 50 thousand taka in cash.
According to the claim of Money Plant Link Private Limited Company, Tk 11 crore was looted.
