ECNEC approves 10 projects worth Tk 4,621 crore

Dhaka, January 25: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 projects. The total cost of these projects has been estimated at Tk 4,621.34 crore. Of this, the government will finance Tk 3,055.21 crore. And Tk 1,566 crore rupees will come from foreign sources, taxes and grants.

He was speaking after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (January 25). The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina at the NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The Prime Minister joined it via video conference from Ganobhaban.

Approved Projects: - Netrokona-Bishiura-Ishwarganj Road Development Project, Construction of Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Building, Construction of 16 Regional Passport Offices, Establishment of Sheikh Hasina Cantonment Barisal, Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management Project and Agriculture Development Project of Sylhet Region through Modern Technology.

In addition, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Gazipur Approach Road Widening and Other Necessary Infrastructure Development (Third Amendment) Project, Flood and River Bank Irison Management Investment Program were approved.

On the other hand, approval was given for urea formaldehyde-85 (UF-85) plant project and setting up of six BITAC centers in Gopalganj, Sunamganj, Barisal, Rangpur, Jamalpur and Jessore districts.

The Minister further said that the use of fallow land in Sylhet region will lead to increase in agricultural production, increase in income and employment of farmers and sustainable development of nutrition and social system through the spread of modern technology and crop diversification.

He said passport facilities would be provided across the country, adding that 16 regional passport offices would be set up. Construction of 17 Regional Passport Offices and 4 Passport Office Buildings will be expanded upwards. We want the people of the country to get good benefits for passports. Through decentralization, improved passport services to the people from the nearest convenient location and construction of 17 regional passport office buildings and upward expansion of Sylhet, Chittagong (Mansurabad), Cox's Bazar regional passport office buildings, a total of 21 regional passport offices will be secured.
