ECNEC approves six projects including construction of houses for freedom fighters

Dhaka, March 17: The meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 6 projects at a cost of around Tk 5,719.46 crore. Of this, the government will spend Tk 5,519.87 crore from its own funds, borrow Tk 57.52 crore from abroad and the agency will finance itself Tk 42.07 crore.

The approval was given at an ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (March 16th). The Prime Minister took part in the ECNEC via video conference from Ganobhaban and the concerned ministers-secretaries took position in the NEC conference room in the capital.

Mohammad Zainul Bari, Planning Secretary, NEC, told a press conference after the ECNEC meeting, "A total of six projects were to be taken up by the ECNEC today. A project was withdrawn by the ICT division yesterday. Originally there were six projects today and all six have been passed. '

Of the six projects approved today, three are revised and three are new.

Among the new projects approved, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs's 'Construction of Housing for Indigent Freedom Fighters' project has been approved at a cost of Tk 4,122.99 crore. The time has been fixed from January 2021 to October 2023.

The Ministry of Social Welfare's 'Construction of Sports Complex for People with Special Needs' project has been approved at a cost of Tk 448.54 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2019 to June 2023.

The Local Government Department's 'Rural Infrastructure Development in Pirojpur District' project has been approved at a cost of Tk 800 crore. The project will be implemented from January 2021 to June 2025.

The Ministry of Water Resources has approved the first amendment of the project 'Protection of right bank of Padma river in Jajira and Naria upazilas of Shariatpur district'.

The second amendment of the ‘Construction of New 132/33 KV and 33/1 KV Substation Under DPDC’ project of the Power Department has been approved. The cost of the project has been increased by Tk 92.25 crore in the second amendment. The main cost of the project is Tk 1,650.06 crore. In the first amendment, its expenditure was increased to Tk 2,037.89 crore. Today, in the second amendment, 2 thousand 479 crore 94 lakh taka has been made.
