Export earnings rise by 23.24% in May

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 4: The country's export earnings increased by 23.24 percent year-on-year to USD 3.83 billion in May 2022, according to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

During the same period last year, Bangladesh earned 3.11 billion US dollars from export earnings.

The export income of the country's exporters has increased by 34.09 percent annually during the July-May period of the current 2021-22 fiscal year and reached USD 47.17 billion. In April, exporters' revenue rose 51 percent year on year to USD 4 billion, and in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year it has been 43.34 billion dollars.

Exports of readymade garments (RMG) increased by 34.87 percent to 38.52 billion dollars between July and May of this financial year. Of this, 20.98 billion dollars came from knitwear exports, which is an increase of 36.61 percent year-on-year, and 17.54 billion dollars came from woven garment exports, which is an increase of 32.85 percent.

According to the EPB, new exports of home textiles increased by 41.3 percent to 1.46 billion dollars.

Among other notable sectors, agricultural products grew by 21.51 percent to USD 1.10 billion during the same period.

Leather and leather products increased by 31.85 percent to 1,115.58 million dollars, which was at 846.08 million in the same period in the last fiscal year.
