Export earnings rise by 51% in April

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 10: Export earnings increased 51.18 percent in April on the back of high growth in garment exports. During this time, goods worth USD 473.46 crore had been exported.

This information was obtained from the updated statistics of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

In April of the last 2020-21 financial year, the total export amount was 313.43 crore dollars, and in the current fiscal year 2021-22, the export target was 336 crore 90 lakh dollars. As such, exports have been 40.66 percent higher than the target during the period under review.

Meanwhile, in the first 10 months (July-April) of the current financial year, export earnings increased by 35.14 percent over the same period of the previous financial year. At this time, the total revenue from the export of goods has been 4,334.43 crore US dollars, which is 20.52 percent more than the target.

In the same period of the last financial year, the export income was 3,207.27 crore dollars. In 10 months, the income from the export of garments was 3,536.25 crore dollars. In this case, the growth is about 36 percent.

Exports of frozen fish increased by 17.45 percent, agricultural products by 26.29 percent, manufacturing products by 35.61 percent, chemical and pharmaceutical products by 45 percent and plastic products by 35 percent in the same period of the current financial year as compared to 10 months of July-April of the last financial year. Besides, leather products grew by 32.96 percent, cottage industries by 30.24 percent and ceramics by 39.96 percent.

However, jute and jute products are in a negative position in exports as in the last few months. In the 10 months till April, jute exports fell 17.67 percent below the target and 6.68 percent behind the same period last year. The income from exports of jute and jute commodity sector was 96.65 crore dollars.
