Export income of jute products exceeds target by 20 percent

Dhaka, November 3: In the first four months of the current financial year (July-October), Bangladesh earned USD 438.7 million by exporting jute and jute products. This is about 20.47 percent more than the target.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute on Tuesday (November 3), citing the monthly report of the Export Development Bureau, Bangladesh earned USD 438.7 million by exporting jute and jute products in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2020-21. This is 39.52 percent more than the same period last year. And that is about 20.47 percent more than the target.

Claiming that the contribution of this sector to the national economy is increasing due to the formulation and implementation of a practical action plan of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute for the development and expansion of the jute sector, the government is providing all kinds of assistance for the expansion of jute industry besides motivating jute farmers.

It further said that in line with the targets of the current jute season, effective steps have been taken to ensure proper supply of seeds to ensure jute cultivation. The government is implementing a project titled 'Advanced Technology Based Jute and Jute Seed Production and Expansion' under the Department of Jute to increase the production of quality jute and achieve self-sufficiency in jute seed production.

The project is being implemented in 230 upazilas of 46 districts of the country. Through its implementation, farmers are being trained on advanced techniques of jute cultivation. In addition, all kinds of assistance including free distribution of 390 tons of jute seeds to the farmers to increase the production of quality jute and jute seeds has been continued.
