Dhaka, September 23: Four government ministers have urged the country to return to discipline without shutting down e-commerce. They are Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi.

The ministers made the remarks at a review meeting on "Recent Problems in the Digital Commerce Business" on Wednesday (September 22) afternoon.

At the meeting, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "There are allegations that many people have been deceived in e-commerce. A law needs to be enacted to manage e-commerce. It is important to take steps so that no one in the country is deceived in digital trade. One needs to build a platform."

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hassan Mahmud said, "E-commerce has become popular with the digitalisation of Bangladesh. Laws need to be enacted so that people are not deceived. A regulatory authority could be set up to run the business."

Hassan Mahmood said, ‘It would not be right to shut down e-commerce for a few fraudulent organizations. Awareness needs to be raised among the people. For this, the media, especially social media, has to be used. Then the chances of cheating will decrease. The regulatory authority needs to be modernized and monitoring needs to be strengthened."

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque said, "It would not be right to stop e-commerce. E-commerce needs to be streamlined by bringing it under the law. So that no one can cheat. People will want to get products at lower prices, that is the reality. Deposits can be made for e-commerce. The bigger the business, the higher the deposit. Must be credible to people. The government must be strict against fraud. People need to cooperate so that they can get their money back."

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, "A regulatory authority will be set up to manage e-commerce without shutting it down. E-commerce is on the rise all over the world. Thousands of people have already been involved in this business. In digital Bangladesh, trade will be conducted digitally."
