Dhaka, December 8: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government is working to ensure a safe and secure environment in the sea to protect marine resources and marine trade for economic prosperity.

He said, "Considering the immense potential of marine resources, our government has taken extensive measures to develop the marine sector. But, a prosperous economy is possible only when we can ensure a safe and secure environment in the sea. To that end, we have planned capacity to protect our marine resources. We are modernizing our Navy through qualitative development programs over time with growth."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while officially inaugurating the International Fleet Review-2022 organized by the Bangladesh Navy at Inani Beach in Cox's Bazar under the title 'Friendship Beyond the Horizon'.

On the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the country's independence, navies and maritime organizations of 28 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Turkey, the Netherlands and the host Bangladesh The four-day IFR began with participation.

Bangladesh Navy is organizing the IFR on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.

The Prime Minister said that safe seas are essential to ensure free international trade as 90 percent of the world's trade is carried out by sea.

She said, "Though all our countries are divided by international geographical boundaries, we are bound together with all the coastal countries by the bridge of friendship. The 'IFR-2022' event organized by Bangladesh Navy under the motto 'Friendship Beyond the Horizon' further strengthens the bond of friendship between us. which I strongly believe will play an important role in increasing mutual trust and achieving economic prosperity among all maritime nations."

The head of government said that it is necessary to keep the sea safe for the sake of free global trade. There is huge scope and potential for maritime trade, economic prosperity and extraction and exploration of marine resources. For that purpose, his government has established a marine research center in Cox's Bazar.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We believe that any problem can be solved through compromise and dialogue, not conflict. Bangladesh's armed forces are being strengthened not to fight, but our aim is to establish peace and harmony. To protect the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. "
