Growth in export earnings increased by 10 percent in March

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 3 April 2024: Export earnings have increased by 10 percent in the recently concluded March month. Bangladesh earned 510.25 crore US dollars by exporting products this month. In local currency (110 taka per dollar) which amounts to taka 56,128 crores.

This income is 10 percent more than March last year. Exports in the previous month in February were 518.75 crore dollars. In that month too, there was a growth in export earnings compared to the same period last year. Earlier, there was a positive trend in exports in the month of January as well.

The growth rate in overall merchandise exports has also increased due to the increase in merchandise exports for three consecutive months. In the first 9 months (July-March) of the financial year 2023-24, goods worth 4,355 crore dollars have been exported. This income is 4.39 percent higher than the same period of the previous financial year. These data have emerged in the statistics published by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on Tuesday.

In 2022-23 financial year, Bangladesh exported goods worth 5,556 crore dollars. At that time the growth was 6.67 percent. In the current financial year 2023-24, the target of export income is 6,200 crore dollars. According to EPB data, despite the increase in export income in 9 months, Bangladesh is 5.86 percent behind the target.

According to the EPB report, in the first 9 months of the current financial year, the export of the country's major export sector, manufactured garments, has increased, but the export of other major sectors has decreased. These include frozen foods, jute and jute products, leather and leather products, home textiles, engineering products etc.
