Dhaka, 5 February 2023: Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasusan Ismail has arrived in Dhaka on a one-day visit.

Malaysia is considered as the second largest labor market for Bangladesh after Saudi Arabia. This market has been closed for a while but has finally opened.

However, the workers could not be sent there as desired. Even though a new agreement was reached in December 2021, it was not possible to send workers. It has long been alleged that some 'intermediaries' are creating instability in this market. Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasusan Ismail has come to Dhaka on a one-day visit to untangle this and speed up the labor market. It is said that he will attend some important meetings during his 24-hour visit to Dhaka.

Saifuddin Nasusan Ismail arrived in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. Malaysian High Commissioner Hajna appointed in Dhaka. Hashim welcomed him at the airport. According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saifuddin Nasusan Ismail held a meeting with Senakalyan Overseas Employment Service Limited in Dhaka on Saturday. Later that night, he attended a dinner with Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Imran Ahmed.

On Sunday morning, the Malaysian Home Minister will hold a meeting with the Expatriate Welfare Minister on the labor market issue. He will then hold a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. After lunch at noon, he will leave for Malaysia.

According to sources from the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, some important decisions about the labor market may be made in the meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia. Apart from this, there will also be discussions about approving more recruiting agencies for the recruitment of staff in that country.

A senior official of the ministry said that for a long time there were various activities regarding this labor market. Even in terms of sending workers, the target could not be met. So a systemic change is being considered. If the Malaysian government agrees to the proposal, it can also be discussed. Besides, if necessary, the issue of amending the terms of agreement will also be discussed.
