IMF praises progress of Bangladesh

Dhaka, 11 December 2022: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that the recently visited International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation highly appreciated the progress of Bangladesh.

He said that the IMF delegation came to Dhaka to see where the economy of Bangladesh is and at what stage. They wholeheartedly praised the outstanding progress of Bangladesh. These achievements did not happen one by one, not only by the hands of the government. Taxpayers have a big contribution. We need the participation of everyone in the country to move forward.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the award and honoring ceremony of the highest VAT payers at the national level at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (December 10). Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abu Hena presided over the event. Rahmatul Munim.

The minister said, 14 years ago, Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) was $100 billion, now it has quadrupled to $465 billion. Similarly, the per capita income increased from $686 to $2,864. The role of taxpayers in our development progress is many. We are able to come here today because of your sacrifice. He said, we are now a middle income country. Our goal is to be an upper middle income country by 2030.

And going to Qatar in 2041 developed countries. To achieve this goal, taxes must be paid. If you don't pay taxes we can't do anything for the backward people. Soon we will move forward by modernizing the VAT collection system. Everyone has to participate in making our dreams come true. Doing so will lead to sustainable development.

The minister said, "Give us your advice, we will take your advice." Our objective is to empower you to collect VAT. This is how the country will move forward. And if we want to move the country forward, everyone has to come forward.
