Mahindra Engineering of India appointed as the Project Management Consultant to establish Economic Zone

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 28: Mahindra Engineering Consultant of India has been appointed as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the G2G Based Indian Economic Zone (EZ).

An agreement in this regard was recently signed in the meeting room of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) in Dhaka.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami was present on the occasion as the guest of honour. BEZA's Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun presided over the meeting.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh and the Government of India in June, 2015 to establish an Indian Economic Zone (EZ). As part of this, a project related to 'Establishment of Indian Economic Zone at Mirsarai' is being implemented in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City for setting up Indian Economic Zone on about 900 acres of land in Sub-Zone 1.

The purpose of this project is to establish a separate zone for Indian investors. The estimated cost of the project is Tk 964.85 crore. The main work of the project is to build land development, connecting road, administrative building, security system, water supply system, telecommunication, water treatment plant and other investment friendly facilities. In view of this, Mahindra Engineering Consultant, a consulting firm of India, has been appointed to carry out the design and supervision activities of these works.

The agreement was signed by Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Director, Indian Economic Zone Establishment Project, Mirsarai on behalf of BEZA, and Mr. Nivasan, Senior General Manager, Mahindra Engineering Consultants Ltd., India.

Speaking on the occasion, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami said that he was hopeful that the establishment of Indian Economic Zone would further strengthen the economic ties between the two countries.

He said the implementation of this Economic Zone would accelerate the economic development of Southeast Asia as a whole. Doraiswami said his government is committed to the successful implementation of the region.
