Malaysia ready to take 300,000 new workers

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 23: Malaysia is ready to take 300,000 new workers. More workers will be hired in phases in the next few months.

Abdul Latif Ahmed, Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister of Malaysia (Special Affairs), made the remarks at a press conference after the signing of the MoU on Tuesday (March 22).

He said it was essential for the government to have an organized screening system to ensure the welfare and safety of the workers. So that corona tests and staff can be included in the seven-day quarantine.

Mentioning that the safety and health of migrant workers will be ensured, he said, "We welcome the workers' commitment. I want to make sure that the quarantine process and tests are regulated. In addition, migrant workers from different countries will be placed under compulsory quarantine in 400 hotels across the country."

On December 10 last year, the cabinet agreed to recruit migrant workers in various sectors. On December 19, Human Resources Minister M Saravanan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh on staff recruitment in Malaysia, which will be effective for five years till December, 2026.

Meanwhile, a total of three lakh 13 thousand 14 applications have been received from employers in different sectors for the recruitment of migrant workers till March 16. According to the concerned ministry sources, these are being processed in phases.

Sources said that out of the applications received from February 15 till March 16, one lakh 93 thousand 346 people have applied in manufacturing sector, 48 thousand 119 people in service sector, 36 thousand 950 people in tree planting sector, 27 thousand 331 people in construction sector, seven thousand 248 people in agriculture sector and 20 people in minerals and mining sector.
