Market price of daily commodities in the country has decreased at a significant rate: PM Hasina

Dhaka, April 6: As TCB's sales activities continue, the market price of essential commodities in the country has come down at a significant rate. This was stated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in response to a question from Kazim Uddin Ahmed, MP of Mymensingh-11 constituency of the ruling party in the question and answer session scheduled for the Prime Minister in Parliament on Wednesday (April 6).

"Commodity prices have risen sharply in all countries, starting with the United States, due to the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic," she said. "Russia-Ukraine war has been inadvertently added to this. As a result, commodity prices have risen in the international market. However, the present people-friendly government has taken all possible steps to keep the prices of daily commodities at a tolerable level."

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer session of the Prime Minister.

Highlighting the steps taken by her government to control the market of daily commodities, the Prime Minister said, "As a result of various activities of the government, the prices of essential commodities are at a reasonable level. I hope the daily commodities will be at a tolerable level during the holy month of Ramadan."

In reply to a question, the Prime Minister gave a comparative picture of the current and past market value of TCB in a few daily commodities. She said the market price of a liter can of soybean oil was Tk 160 on March 1 and on April 5 the price was reduced to Tk 161.50. At that time, soybean has been reduced from Tk 165 to Tk 155 per liter and palm oil from Tk 158 to Tk 142 per liter. Besides, TCB has sold soybean oil at Tk 110 per liter can.

She further said that the price of lentils was Tk 120 per kg on March 1. It has been reduced to Tk 112.50 on 5 April. At that time TCB has sold at Tk 65 per kg. The price of sugar has come down from Tk 85 per kg on March 1 to Tk 78 on April 5. At this time TCB is selling at Tk 55 per kg. The price of gram has come down from Tk 77 on March 1 to Tk 72 on April 5. At that time TCB sold Tk 50 per kg. Onion has been reduced from Tk 60 per kg on March 1 to Tk 31.50 on 5 April. TCB is selling at Tk 20 per kg.
