Dhaka, November 7: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon all concerned to build multi-purpose village cooperatives.

"If we can build it, there will be no poverty in Bangladesh," she said.

At the same time, she called for more involvement of women in welfare cooperatives and cooperatives.

She made the call at the 49th National Cooperative Day 2020 celebrations and the National Cooperative Awards 2019 ceremony on Saturday (November 7).

The Prime Minister joined the function at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center via video conference from Ganobhaban.

She said, "Poverty will be completely eradicated if we can build multi-faceted village cooperatives across the country. So everyone who is in the cooperative will work in that way. May we build Bangladesh as a country free from hunger and poverty. You have a big role to play here."

The Prime Minister said, "We can develop the country only through cooperatives - we believe in the principle of the Father of the Nation. Therefore, I would like to request those who are involved in cooperatives to work with a sense of responsibility with a little sincerity."

Highlighting the role of women in cooperatives, the Prime Minister said, "I think women should come forward more. Half of the society is women. If women come forward then corruption will decrease a little. There will be more work. Every family will benefit."

"We have not just given small loans, we have not taken high interest rates, we have made arrangements for small savings," she said.

"I have turned my house into a rural savings bank along with my farm. Where now will not be dependent only on the project. Merchants are not able to pay interest on loans, they are pulling someone's shed, they are snatching someone's cows. We have taken small savings measures so that no one has to migrate. Through which the people of our country will benefit. We are taking action."

"We have a large population, but it is also an asset to us," she said. "We should not be disappointed with this population growth. If we can use them well in education, initiation and training, they can do the most for our society and that is one of our resources."

"The father of the nation has given us freedom," she said. "Our goal is to build a hunger-free, poverty-free golden Bangladesh that he dreamt of. We have won the liberation war. Therefore, no matter how many obstacles come, Bengalis will move forward."
