PM to inaugurate 50 industrial units and projects on Wednesday

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 23: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 50 industrial units, projects, and buildings in different Economic Zones (EZ) of the country on Wednesday, October 26, on the occasion of 50 years of independence.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Haroon said, "The Prime Minister will virtually inaugurate 50 industrial units, projects, and buildings in EZs across the country. BEZA will organize this event in eight venues. Of these, there are commercial operations of four factories in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Chittagong and eight factories in various privately run EZs."

He said, "More than 96 crore 77 lakh 30 thousand US dollars have already been invested in these industrial units and about 33 crore 12 lakh 70 thousand dollars will be invested."

Among the EZ facilities to be inaugurated are BSMSN, Jamalpur Economic Zone, Srihatt EZ, and Sabrang Tourism Park administrative building.

The BEZA chief said, "Apart from this, the Prime Minister will officially inaugurate 20 km Sheikh Hasina Sarani, 230 KVA gridline and substation at BSMSN."

He said the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a water treatment plant with a water treatment capacity of 50 million liters per day (MLD).

Four of the factories to be inaugurated are in Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar. One of these, Macdonald Steel Industries Limited, manufactures prefabricated structural steel, which is used in steel bridges and high-rise buildings, factories, and power plants. Nippon and Macdonald Steel Industries Ltd. manufacture MS plate from imported steel, purlin, slitting sheet, and coil.

Asian Paints Bangladesh Limited manufactures paints and allied products, emulsions. The company has invested USD 34 million in the economic zone. Samuda Construction Limited, the manufacturer of PHC piles, is constructing its factory on 4 acres of land with an investment of USD 8.2 million.

Investors will enjoy tax holidays and duty-free import of raw materials and machinery in the economic zone. Countries including Japan, China, India, Australia, Netherlands, Germany, America, United Kingdom, Singapore, South Korea, and Norway have invested directly in economic zones.
