Dhaka, Novemner 11: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized on doubling the volume of bilateral trade between Bangladesh and France by 2025 and called on French businessmen to encourage their investments in the Asian country, which is strategically located in the Indo-Pacific economic hub.

"French investment in Bangladesh is still less than its global investment. I am directly inviting French investors to invest in Bangladesh," Prime Minister Hasina said during a meeting with business leaders of MEDEF International in France on Wednesday.

Noting that Bangladesh has a strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region to act as a bridge between the major economic centers, Sheikh Hasina said, "We are working to make Bangladesh a regional hub. Our investments across the region in the areas of road, rail, sea, energy and digital connectivity will be real game-changers."

She said the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) was working directly with her office and would be happy if her office could help French investors in any way possible.

"You can find a local partner to facilitate your entry and building a partnership with Bangladesh in the long run is best for you," she suggested, adding, "Bilateral trade between Bangladesh and France is gradually increasing. At present, bilateral trade is close to USD 2 billion."

Referring to France as the fifth largest export destination of Bangladesh currently, the Prime Minister said, "We must aim to double the volume of bilateral trade by 2025. We want our exports to France to be more diversified."

Sheikh Hasina said she is confident that French investors would show confidence about the high return on investment in Bangladesh.

"We always welcome your feedback and suggestions. Bangladesh is ready to welcome you in developing your business venture for mutual benefit," the Prime Minister added.

She also thanked MEDEF International for setting up the Bangladesh-France Business Council.
