Dhaka, March 30: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized on strengthening economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Vietnam for mutual benefit. Ambassador of Vietnam Pham Viet Chien said this when he paid farewell visit to the Prime Minister at her official residence Ganobhaban on Thursday morning.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters that during the meeting they discussed the friendly relations between the two countries. They expressed interest in the development of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh and Vietnam have many similarities in the struggle for independence and achievement of victory. Referring to the appreciation of the people of this country towards the freedom struggle of Vietnam, she said, "In the past, the slogan of the freedom struggle of the people of Bangladesh against the Pakistani junta was 'Bangla Hobe Vietnam'."

Referring to the agricultural sector, she said, Bangladesh is a densely populated country. The country's population is huge, "So we have engaged researchers to increase agricultural production."

Prime Minister emphasized on connectivity among South Asian countries. She thanked the outgoing Ambassador of Vietnam for his successful performance and congratulated his country on its socio-economic achievements.

The Vietnamese Ambassador referred to himself as a 'friend of Bangladesh'. He said that Bangladesh Awami League has relationship with Vietnamese government and Communist Party. On behalf of the Vietnamese leader, the ambassador invited the Prime Minister to visit the country on the occasion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

He said, Bangladesh and Vietnam have a trade relationship of 1.5 billion US dollars. Bangladesh's exports to Vietnam have increased by 30 percent.

The ambassador said that Bangladesh has made unprecedented progress in recent years. He also said that both countries can strengthen cooperation in the garment sector. At that time, the Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Mohammad Salauddin was present.
