Saudi Arabia eager to take bandwidth from Bangladesh

Dhaka, March 13, 2022: Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that Saudi Arabia is interested in buying bandwidth from Bangladesh.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the fourth founding anniversary of the Entrepreneurs' Conference at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium in the capital on Saturday (March 12).

Mustafa Jabbar said that 5G service will be launched commercially in the country on March 31 this month. At present Bangladesh uses 2,600 Gbps band. In 2000, Bangladesh used only 8 and a half Gbps bandwidth. Bangladesh is currently exporting this bandwidth to various countries including India and Saudi Arabia to meet its demand. Saudi Arabia is trying to buy more bandwidth from us.

"We have come up with a plan in consultation with the education minister," he said. Internet connection will be provided in every school-college of Bangladesh in phases by next year i.e. 2023. Internet connection will then be provided in every village and home.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications urged the youth to become entrepreneurs without running after jobs. Mustafa Jabbar said that about 70 percent of the young and working people in Bangladesh. If this huge population can be entrepreneurs with IT training then there will be no unemployed in the country. For this, young people need to acquire technical skills. The Minister assured all kinds of cooperation from the government in acquiring technical skills.

It was informed at the program that 1,051 days of online entrepreneurship was created in 16 batches with 14 skills for 90 consecutive days with 6 lakh youths from 64 districts and 50 countries of the country. The entrepreneur Iqbal Bahar Zahid, the founder and president and mentor of 'A Story to Tell Yourself', has created this entrepreneur.
