Sheikh Hasina's leadership is needed for prosperity: IMF chief

Dhaka, May 1: International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, praising the unprecedented development of Bangladesh, said that Bangladesh needs a leader like Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take the country forward on the road to prosperity by facing all obstacles.

She said this during a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the Riz-Carlton Hotel in Washington on Saturday.

Kristalina said, "Bangladesh is a role model in the world. Under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the country has achieved unprecedented development in various fields."

In a press briefing, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told reporters that the IMF chief led a delegation to the meeting. Sheikh Hasina is currently in the United States on an official visit to attend the celebration of 50 years of Bangladesh's partnership with the World Bank on Monday.

The foreign minister said that the IMF chief said that Sheikh Hasina's dynamic leadership has kept Bangladesh economically stable even after Covid-19.

Georgieva also said that leadership like the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is necessary to take the country forward on the path of prosperity by facing all the obstacles. She praised the Prime Minister for maintaining stability in the macro economy even during the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh.

She said that Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in comprehensive infrastructural development, establishment of good connectivity and protection of law and order.

At this time, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh informed the IMF chief about the various initiatives of her government to ensure the overall development of her country.

She also said that the development of the country did not happen in a day. It is the result of long planning.
