Supplementary budget for 2021-22 fiscal year passed

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 14: The supplementary budget for the financial year 2021-22 has been passed in the parliament with the approval and expenditure of not more than 17,524 crore 64 lakh 5 thousand taka of the sanctioned funds from the consolidated fund for the financial year ending June 30, 2022.

The budget was passed through the Specification Supplementary Bill, 2022. When Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed to pass the bill, it was passed unanimously in Parliament.

The main budget for the current financial year was Tk 6 lakh 3 thousand 681 crore. Expenditure of 26 ministries and departments has increased by Tk 17,524 crore 64 lakh 5 thousand. With the increase and decrease of this expenditure of various ministries and departments, the size of the revised budget for the current financial year stands at Tk 5 lakh 93 thousand 500 crore.

Before passing the bill, as per the provisions, 26 grant demands, including those of the Prime Minister's Office, were raised separately by the concerned ministers and state ministers in the parliament. A total of four demands from the Public Safety Department, Health Services Department, Local Government Department and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief were discussed on the basis of compromise among the 11 members of the opposition.

In the supplementary budget, the highest amount of 5,307 crore 56 lakh 61 thousand taka is in the finance department sector, the second highest 2,742 crore 34 lakh 64 thousand taka is in the ministry of agriculture sector. The third highest 2,334 crore 41 lakh 88 thousand taka in the food ministry sector. The fourth highest is in the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education sector 1,908 crore 71 lakh 98 thousand taka, and the fifth highest is 757 crore 69 lakh 30 thousand taka in the Ministry of Water Resources sector.

Earlier, discussions were held on the supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2021-22.

Begum Wasika Ayesha Khan of the ruling party, Ahsanul Haque Tito, Raushan Ara Mannan of the Jatiya Party and Harunur Rashid of the BNP took part in the discussion.

After the concluding speech of the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on the supplementary budget, the process of passing the supplementary budget was started. After passing the grant request separately, the supplementary budget for the financial year 2021-22 was passed through the Specification Supplementary Bill, 2022.
