Dhaka, October 28: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said the country will get a wave of investments from Japan after the economic zone in Araihajar is completed next year.

"Bangladesh welcomes investment, trade and both G2G and P2P communication. In many cases, Japan and Bangladesh can be development partners in infrastructure development or in emerging sectors such as ICT," he said.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen made the remarks while addressing the Japan-Bangladesh Investment Summit 2021 on Wednesday (October 27).

"As Japan is one of the top five foreign investors in Bangladesh in terms of growing foreign direct investment, it could be one of our major partners in mega-projects in finance, construction, capital and technology," he said.

He said, "Trade relations between Japan and Bangladesh have now reached a different height. The trade volume between the two countries stands at 3 billion US dollars. Our exports to Japan amount to 1.2 billion US dollars and our imports from Japan amount to 1.8 billion US dollars."

"We want to diversify our investment, product and export markets," he said. "We want to serve both the industry and the consumer in the global market in the best possible way. Bangladeshi missions abroad have been instructed to assist in business and economic initiatives."

He further said, "We are still enjoying the benefits of the friendly relations that were laid between Bangladesh and Japan through the visit of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Japan in 1972. At present, we are strongly committed to economic diplomacy."

The Foreign Minister said, "Now the story of this miraculous development of Sheikh Hasina is being told. This is the story in Bangladesh. When different countries of the world could not overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, Bangladesh has maintained the economic progress of the country by dealing with it quickly."
