Tk 13,750 cr comes in remittance in 20 days

Dhaka, Oct 23: In the first 20 days of October, expatriates sent Tk 125 crore 70 thousand dollars in remittance through banking channels, which is Tk 13,750 crore 77 lakh in in Bangladeshi currency (USD 1 = Tk 110). The average daily remittance inflow is 6 crore 25 lakh US dollars or about Tk 688 crore.

According to the latest report of Bangladesh Bank, in the first 20 days of October, remittances of 125 crore 70 thousand dollars have come to the country. An average of 6 crore 25 lakh US dollars is coming every day. If this trend of remittances continues, it may exceed USD 190 crore by the end of the month.

During the discussed period, 10 crore 15 lakh 20 thousand dollars came through state-owned banks, 4 crore 15 lakh 30 thousand US dollars through one of the two specialized banks, 110 crore 31 lakh 10 thousand dollars through private banks and 39 lakh 10 thousand US dollars came through foreign banks.

The number of banks which did not receive any remittance during the discussed period is seven. These banks include the state-owned Bangladesh Development Bank or BDBL, the specialized Rajshahi Agricultural Development Bank. Private Banks include Community Bank, Citizens Bank, Border Bank. Foreign Sector Habib Bank, National Bank of Pakistan and State Bank of India.

In September, the expatriate income was 134 crore 36 lakh 60 thousand dollars, which is Tk 14,712 crore in Bangladeshi currency (USD 1 = Tk 109.50). This is the lowest remittance or expatriate income in the last 41 months. Before this, in May 2019, 127 crore 62 lakh 20 thousand dollars came in remittance.
