Dhaka, February 12: According to the ministry, in 2020, Tk 2,500 crore has been earned through sailors of domestic vessels and officers and sailors of sea-going ships. The information was given at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on the Ministry of Shipping held at the Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (February 11).

The committee was chaired by Major (Retd.) Rafiqul Islam. The meeting was attended by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Shahjahan Khan, Md. Mazaharul Haque Pradhan, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Dr. Samil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, Md. Aslam Hossain Saudagar and SM Shahzada.

At present, there are 27,907 registered vessels in the country, the meeting was informed quoting the Ministry of Shipping. The committee thinks that it has not been possible to bring all the ships of the country under the survey yet. If this is possible, the actual number of vessels will be known and the revenue will increase. Therefore, the committee recommended to bring all the ships of the country under online survey and registration in a short period of time.

It is learned that the parliamentary committee wants to see Chittagong seaport in '3D' model. The port authorities have been asked to take appropriate action for this purpose.

Relevant sources said that in the previous meeting of the committee, Chairman Major (Retd.) Rafiqul Islam raised the Bir Uttam issue. He called for the preparation of a three-dimensional model of Chittagong port. In this case, he suggested to make a three-dimensional model of Chittagong port in the style of Antwerp seaport of Belgium. The matter was later brought up in the recommendations of the committee meeting and the port authorities were urged to prepare the model.
