Tk 3,297 crore allocated as Covid-19 aid

Dhaka, May 31: In the new 2021-22 financial year, Tk 3,297.44 crore will be spent under two projects to combat coronavirus. The draft was approved at a recent meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC). It is expected to be finalized in the upcoming budget session.

According to Planning Commission officials, if the coronavirus is detected in the country in March 2020, a loan from the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will be provided to Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness. The 'Covid-19 Response Emergency Assistance' project was adopted on loan. But as it is not yet possible to bring the situation under control, a large amount of money has been allocated for coronavirus in the new financial year as well.

According to the commission, the Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness (WB-GoB) (First Amendment) project is being implemented from April 2020 to June 2023. The total cost is Tk 6,786.59 crore. Of this, the government will give Tk 172.46 crore and AIIB and World Bank are giving loans of Tk 6,614.13 crore.

The total allocation for the 2021-22 financial year is Tk 2,752.52 crore. Of this, Tk 66.90 crore will be provided by the government and foreign debt is Tk 2,685.62 crore. The 'Covid-19 Response Emergency Assistance' project is being implemented from April 2020 to July 2023. The total cost is Tk 1,364.56 crore. Of this, the government is giving Tk 514.60 crore and ADB is giving Tk 849.97 crore.

The allocation for the 2021-22 financial year is Tk 545.36 crore. Of this, the government will provide Tk 142.44 crore and a loan of Tk 402.92 crore will be taken from the ADB.
