Trade Fair Transfer of the new venue of the trade fair is stuck in formality
Dhaka, January 2: The International Trade Fair will be held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal instead of the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital. However, despite being ready to be handed over, the government has not yet received the exhibition center from the Chinese company due to formalities.
It is learned that in the ongoing coronavirus situation, the international trade fair will not be organised at the beginning of the year, unlike other years.
The month-long fair will be organised around the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (March 17).
At the direction of the Prime Minister, the venue of the fair has been changed to the Bangladesh International-China Friendship Exhibition Center at Bagrayat (Purbachal) in Brahmankhali, Rupganj Upazila, Narayanganj, instead of the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
In 2015, the government undertook a project worth Tk 796 crore with the help of China to make the trade fair international.
According to the agreement with the Chinese manufacturer, the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center was to be signed on 31 December 2020. However, the government has not yet understood the formality of the Chinese company's proposal.
Rezaul Karim, project director of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, said, "The transfer has not taken place yet, everything is ready. How do we do it, or what do we do ... that's the way it is, that's the way it is."
Asked if the handover was for formality, he said, "Yes, that's it, that's the way it is. I am considering a proposal from the Chinese embassy on how to hand over. Whether to do it online or not is under consideration. First the program will be ok, then the date. If it is formal, it will be the date of handover. I hope it should be done by next week, the work is over."
