UK keen to increase investment in Bangladesh

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 29: The businessmen of the United Kingdom have expressed interest in increasing investment in Bangladesh. That is why they want an investment-friendly environment.

On Monday (March 28), Rushnara Ali, a Member of the British Parliament and the British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, expressed the interest. She expressed her interest in a courtesy call on Salman Fazlur Rahman, Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister, at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) building in Agargaon.

The meeting discussed various bilateral issues, including ways to enhance trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and the UK. British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dixon was present at the time.

After the meeting, Salman F. Rahman said, "The British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy had called for improving the quality of service at the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and ensuring a conducive environment for foreign investors. We informed him that a third terminal was being constructed at Shahjalal Airport to ensure international services. This work will be completed within the next year."

Later, during a press briefing, British MP Rushnara Ali said that UK-Bangladesh relations were in a strong position. In this case, the development of trade relations between the two countries is very important. She added that there were many areas to work with Bangladesh on trade and investment, and they wanted to take this relationship to new heights.

Rushnara Ali said many British companies are interested in doing business in Bangladesh. She called for a conducive business environment for British investors wishing to do business in the future.

In response, Salman F. Rahman said that creating an investment-friendly environment is a continuous process. The Government of Bangladesh is working to ensure a conducive business environment for investors.
