Dhaka, December 18: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the government is working on a plan to send an average of 1,000 workers every year from each upazila, in a message on Thursday (December 18) on the occasion of International Migrants Day.

Sheikh Hasina said central training has been set up to provide technical training on the basis of global demand, reduce migration costs and hold middlemen accountable, provide overall automation in the recruitment process and provide various types of digitized services.

She said various programs have been taken to create opportunities for the active participation of expatriate workers and non-resident Bangladeshis in the development of the country. She said investment loans have been provided on easy terms to migrant workers and their families returning to the country due to coronavirus and reintegration program has been taken for them. A fund of Tk. 700 crore has already been set up for this purpose and loan disbursement activities have been started from it.

Welcoming all the individuals, organizations and organizations working for the welfare of migrants at home and abroad, including all migrants around the world, on the occasion of Migrants Day, she said, "We will be able to ensure more fair and safe labor migration through overall awareness and integrated initiatives on foreign employment."

The Prime Minister said the present Awami League government has taken multi-pronged measures to make immigration management safe, transparent, fair and dynamic including creation of foreign employment opportunities, protection of welfare and interests of migrant workers, optimal use of foreign exchange earned and ensuring safety of their families.

Sheikh Hasina said incentives are already being provided at the rate of 2 per cent on remittances sent through legal channels. As a result of this incentive, the inflow of foreign exchange earned in exchange for the labor and merit of migrant workers continues to increase. In the fiscal year 2019-20, the amount of remittances sent by expatriate Bangladeshis has increased by 10.90 percent as compared to the previous year and reached USD 18.21 billion.
