Dhaka, Feb 26: World Bank Managing Director (MD) Anna Bjerde has announced a USD 65 crore grant for Rohingyas.

This funding will be done under two schemes. About half of the funding will be used for the displaced Rohingyas and all on grant terms. The amount stands at Tk 7,127 crore 90 lakh in Bangladeshi currency (calculating 1 USD = Tk 109.66).

Bangladesh aims to become an upper-middle income country by 2031. Achieving this goal requires the support of development partners. The World Bank MD reiterated the organization's strong support to help Bangladesh achieve upper-middle income status.

On Sunday (February 25), this information was shared in a press release sent from the organization's Dhaka office.

Earlier, Anna Bjerde held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukder, Finance Secretary Khairuzzaman Majumder, ERD Secretary Md. Shahriar Quader Siddiqui.

World Bank MD said, "World Bank will stand by Bangladesh for inclusive growth of the country. However, financial sector reforms are essential to sustain inclusive growth."

Asserting that Bangladesh's economic growth and development story has been an inspiration to many countries, Bjerde said swift and bold reforms in fiscal and fiscal policy will enable Bangladesh to maintain macroeconomic stability, reduce financial sector risks and sustain inclusive growth amid global uncertainty.

After meeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Anna praised the development of Bangladesh.

She said, today almost hundred percent of boys and girls go to school. Almost every house has electricity.

She thanked the Prime Minister for providing shelter to the displaced Rohingyas.

She pledged to support Bangladesh until the safe and voluntary return of the Rohingyas, as well as to meet the needs of the host community.
