Dhaka, November 9: Medical services will be provided to 100 heroic freedom fighters in India. For this reason, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has called for the applications of the freedom fighters. This information has been given in the press release of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Monday.

It said the program would be jointly implemented by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs with financial support from the Government of India under the 'Medical Services for Heroic Freedom Fighters' scheme. The application will be submitted to the office of the Civil Surgeon of the concerned district till November 30. Detailed information and forms in this regard can be found on the website of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

Earlier, it was reported that 100 freedom fighters suffering from complex diseases would be given free treatment at specialized hospitals in India. This medical service will be provided with the financial assistance of the Government of India under the Medical Services Scheme for Heroic Freedom Fighters. For this, the sick heroic freedom fighters of the whole country have to apply in the prescribed form.

Each district has a medical committee headed by a civil surgeon. The applications of the sick heroic freedom fighters will be examined and the list will be sent to the ministry. After that, the final list will be selected based on the recommendation of the selection committee.

Earlier, in a notification issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on October 21, it was informed that the government will bear the medical expenses of the heroic freedom fighters by issuing a policy in 2021.

According to the policy, in addition to district and upazila level government hospitals, medical colleges and 22 specialized hospitals, a heroic freedom fighter will be able to get free medical services at a maximum of Tk 75,000.

Besides, the government will provide additional grant of Tk 1,00,000 if any heroic freedom fighter is affected by any complex disease and needs treatment at home and abroad after treatment in those hospitals. However, a heroic freedom fighter will not get medical grant more than once in his lifetime. The grant will be approved by the ministry on the recommendation of a selection committee.
