Dhaka, February 16: In the first phase, 5,000 brave freedom fighters got 5,000 residences. On Wednesday (February 15), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the keys to the heroic freedom fighters.

A ceremony was organized at the capital's Osmani Smriti Auditorium to hand over the keys to the heroic residence among the heroic freedom fighters under the project of 'Construction of housing for unwashed heroic freedom fighters' under the implementation of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. The Prime Minister was virtually connected as the chief guest at the event.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, the District Administrators (DCs) of five districts of Narail, Madaripur, Gazipur, Gopalganj and Kishoreganj handed over the keys to the heroic freedom fighters. These five districts were connected virtually in the event.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman handed over the key of Bir Nibas to Sheikh Abdul Sabur, a poor freedom fighter in Narail. District Commissioner Rahima Khatun handed over the key to Madaripur district's troubled freedom fighter Md. Abdul Majid Howladar.

Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman handed over the key of Bir Nibas to the freedom fighter Abdur Majid Sarkar on behalf of the Prime Minister in Gazipur. Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mahbubul Alam handed over the keys to the insolvent freedom fighter Mosharraf Hossain Shikder in Gopalganj.

In addition, Deputy Commissioner Md Abul Kalam Azad handed over the key of Bir Nibas on behalf of the Prime Minister to the freedom fighter Md Sohrab Uddin in Kishoreganj.

In the event, it was informed that the construction of 5,000 Bir Niwas (home of freedom fighters) has been completed. Their keys were handed over today. Besides, the construction work of 17 thousand 660 Bir Nibas is ongoing. The cost of each Bir Nibas with one floor is estimated at 14 lakh 10 thousand 282 taka.

A total of 30,000 Hero Residences will be constructed at a cost of Tk. The project will be completed by December, subject to availability of funds.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque presided over the event. He said that all services of brave freedom fighters have been digitized. Freedom fighters are given gratuity in GTUP system, now they don't have to wait in bank lines to collect their allowance.
