Allowance All heroic freedom fighters will get festival-new year-victory day allowance
Dhaka, April 5: Two festival allowances at the rate of Tk 10,000 per annum will be given to the heroic freedom fighters and at the same time two thousand rupees will be given to the families of the heroic freedom fighters, war wounded heroic freedom fighters and martyred heroic freedom fighters as Bengali New Year allowance. In addition, five thousand taka will be given as a great Victory Day allowance to the survivors of the title-winning, war-wounded and martyred freedom fighters.
For this, the cabinet has approved the proposal to provide festival allowances to the families of the freedom fighters.
As a result of this decision, all classes of heroic freedom fighters will come under the festival, New Year and Victory Day allowances. The approval was given at a virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday. From the Ganobhaban, the Prime Minister and Ministers from the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat attended the meeting via video conference.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam announced the approval at a press briefing with some journalists. He said, “At present, 5,222 war-wounded freedom fighters are given Tk 45,000 to Tk 25,000 per month in 4 (A, B, C and D) categories depending on the level of disability. The family members of 5,816 martyred freedom fighters are being given honorarium at the rate of Tk 30,000 per month and two festival allowances at the rate of Tk 10,000 per year.
But the family members of the war-wounded freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters are not getting the Bengali New Year allowance and the living war-wounded freedom fighters are not getting the Great Victory Day allowance, the cabinet secretary said.
Khandaker Anwarul further said, 'Honorary allowance at the rate of Tk 35,000 per month to 7 Birsrestha families, Tk 25,000 per month to 68 Bir Uttam families, Tk 20,000 per month to 175 Bir Bikram families and Tk 15,000 per month to 426 Bir Pratik families will be given."
He said, "But the heroic freedom fighters do not get any festival allowance, Bengali New Year allowance and the living heroic freedom fighters do not get any great victory day allowance."
The cabinet secretary further said that at present ordinary heroic freedom fighters get honorarium at the rate of Tk 12,000 per month as well as two festival allowances at the rate of Tk 10,000, Tk 2,000 as Bengali New Year allowance and Tk 5,000 as living Victory Day allowance.
