Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 22: The nation is remembering those bravehearts with flowers and respect who sacrificed their lives in front of the bullets of the Pakistani rulers when demanding Bengali as the national language Bengal, and for whose sacrifice, Bengalis got the right to language. Amar Ekushey February and International Mother Language Day observed with due dignity all over the country including the capital Dhaka on Monday.

People who came to pay their respects at the central Shaheed Minar demanded that Bengali be given the status of one of the official languages of the United Nations as well as the introduction of Bengali language at all levels.

Thousands of people came to the central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of February 21 to pay their tributes to the language martyrs on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. This Minar (tower) of mourning and arrogance of Bengalis was full of flowers. However, the presence of people at the central Shaheed Minar was a bit less this year due to the corona pandemic as well as some restrictions imposed by the law enforcement agencies.

Amid the pandemic, like last year, the occation of paying homage was limited. Every year in the early hours of Ekushey, at 12:01 am, the Prime Minister and the President pay their homage. In the midst of the pandemic, like last year, their military secretaries laid wreaths on their behalf.

War-wounded freedom fighters, Sector Commanders Forum, Attorney General, Dhaka University Teachers Association, Ministry of Home Affairs, RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Director General of Fire Service Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain paid their tributes at the Shaheed Minar in the early hours of the morning.

Leaders of various political parties also paid homage to the language martyrs by laying wreaths at the Shaheed Bedi in the early hours of Ekushey.

Earlier, before 12 am. at the midnight, people from all levels of the society, including leaders and activists of various political parties, cultural and social organizations, came to the central Shaheed Minar area following the hygiene rules.
