Former Deputy Speaker and freedom fighter Shawkat Ali placed on life support

Dhaka, November 5: Former Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and freedom fighter Colonel (Retd.) Shawkat Ali, who is undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital, has been placed on life support.

Shawkat Ali, 84, is suffering from various ailments including geriatrics, diabetes, pneumonia and high blood pressure.

As the situation is critical, his family has asked the countrymen for blessings.

Former Deputy Speaker Colonel Shawkat Ali was elected a Member of Parliament from Shariatpur-2 constituency five times.

Shawkat Ali was one of the main accused in the Agartala conspiracy case filed against Bangabandhu in 1969 during the Pakistan period.

He is the founding chairman of the Muktisanghati Parishad and the chief adviser to the 71 Foundation.
