Dhaka, February 2: The draft list of heroic freedom fighters will be released on February 15, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said on Tuesday. It was supposed to be released on the first week of February, the minister had said earlier.

Mozammel Haque said, "We will publish the draft list of heroic freedom fighters as soon as the report of verification and selection is received at the upazila level. We hope to publish the draft list on February 15. We can't say right now how many heroic freedom fighters are in the draft list. We are moving forward with the aim of publishing the draft list on February 15."

The government has taken initiative to publish a complete list of heroic freedom fighters. The Liberation War Affairs Minister has already said that the final list will be released on March 26, on the occasion of Independence Day.

Apart from the approval of the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka), the civilian gazettes published on the heroic freedom fighters are being checked and selected as part of the publication of the list of real freedom fighters. The decision was taken at the 71st meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council held on December 3.

A list of 39,961 freedom fighters has been published on the website of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, out of which the names of those who have been included in the civilian gazette as heroic freedom fighters without the recommendation of Jamuka have been published in violation of Section 8 (i) of the National Freedom Fighters Council Act, 2002.

According to the Ministry of Liberation War, if the name of a heroic freedom fighter is included in the Indian list or the Lal Muktibarta or 33 types of evidence recognized by the Ministry, he will be out of the scope of verification and selection.

If the name of any such heroic freedom fighter is forgotten and published in the verifiable list on the website of the Ministry of Liberation War or Jamuka, the ministry requested to contact the office of the concerned Upazila Nirbahi Officer / Deputy Commissioner's Office at 10 am on January 30 with suitable evidence to remove the name from the list.

On January 18, the Liberation War Minister told reporters, "The work of enrolling 140,000 freedom fighters online has been completed. The gazette of 34 thousand freedom fighters will be verified in the upazila on January 30 to regularize them. We are waiting, maybe it will be limited to one lakh 60 thousand (freedom fighters).'

He added, "Again, there are some pending cases, there are allegations against many, many applications have not been finalized. Those who have appealed have an appeal. If these are disposed of, maybe 2-5 thousand more. In my opinion, the number of general freedom fighters will not go above 1,75,000 under any circumstances."
