Dhaka, June 5: The amount of government assistance for the treatment of brave freedom fighters is increasing by one lakh taka. The government is increasing the maximum amount of support for the treatment of brave freedom fighters from two lakh taka to three lakh taka per year.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said this at the MoU signing ceremony between the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Health Care Department to provide treatment to brave freedom fighters at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Monday (June 5).

The government spends a part of the income from the lease of government haat-bazaar for the treatment of the critical diseases of the brave freedom fighters. There is a policy for that. The brave freedom fighters get medical assistance according to the '4 percent of government haat-bazar lease income for the welfare of brave freedom fighters' policy, 2021.

The minister said, "In the Monday morning meeting, it was decided to increase the medical expenses of the brave freedom fighters to three lakh rupees. Now with the approval of the government, a notification will be issued following due process. We have the financial capacity now, it will be done soon."

He also said that if the medical board thinks that more money is needed, then as per the decision of the medical board, the necessary money can be spent.

Mozammel Haque said that although the brave freedom fighters have been given medical care for five years, many people do not know the matter well. That's why there is a gap. No brave freedom fighter should be deprived of service. Appeal to the doctors to show cooperative attitude towards the brave freedom fighters.

Regarding the list of heroic freedom fighters on the website of the Ministry of Liberation War, he said that the freedom fighters can be verified from any place. Freedom fighters will get free treatment in hospital if they take the card.

According to the policy, the ministry can provide medical facilities of up to 75,000 taka per year for complex and general treatment from time to time to give free treatment to freedom fighters in all government hospitals, medical college hospitals and specialized hospitals at the district and upazila levels.

At the same time, it has been said that if more than that amount (Tk 75 thousand) is required for the treatment of critical diseases of the brave freedom fighters in the specialized hospital, up to Tk 2 lakh can be spent subject to the approval of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on the recommendation of the hospital authorities.

In the case of urgent operation and treatment of a comatose patient, up to two lakh taka can be spent as per the discretion of the hospital authorities. However, it is also mentioned in the policy that the approval of Ministry of Liberation War Affairs should be taken later on.
