Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 7: US-based organization Genocide Watch has recognized crimes committed by the Pakistani military forces against the Bengali population in Bangladesh in 1971 as 'genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes'.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, similarly, US-based Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention recognized the brutal slaughter of Bangladeshis by the Pakistani military junta in 1971.

These two organizations have called upon the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution recognising the 1971 Genocide in Bangladesh.

As a result of the recognition by the genocide-research organizations, efforts will be intensified to garner international support for the resolution unanimously adopted by the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad on March 11, 2017 to recognize March 25 as Genocide Day.
