Liberation War Affairs Ministry cancels directive to rename Sugandha Beach as 'Bangabandhu Beach'

Dhaka, Feb 27: Ministry of Liberation War Affairs cancelled the decision to change the name of two parts of Cox's Bazar beach.

On February 19, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar with instructions to implement the decision to name Sugandha Beach in the tourism zone of Cox's Bazar district as 'Bangabandhu Beach' and the beach between Sugandha and Kalatali Beach as 'Bir Muktijoddha Beach'.

Additional Secretary (Development) Kamrun Nahar said another letter was sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar on Sunday canceling that instruction.

On Monday, he woke up and said, 'It has been decided not to implement the previous instructions to change the name of the beach. A letter has been sent to the District Commissioner of Cox's Bazar in this regard. The previous letter sent has been cancelled.

After the letter of instructions to change the name of the beach, there are various discussions and criticisms about it through social media. The necessity of suddenly changing the old name of Cox's Bazar beach was also questioned.

At the same time, permission from the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust has to be obtained to build any structure in the name of Bangabandhu. But the concerned did not take this permission. In view of this, the Ministry of Liberation War has canceled the previous instructions.
