Medical contract of heroic freedom fighters extended by 5 years

Own representative, Dhaka, December 24: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been renewed between the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Directorate Heneral of Health Services (DGHS) to provide medical services to heroic freedom fighters in government and specialized hospitals. This memorandum of understanding will remain in force for the next five years.

On Thursday (December 23), Secretary Khwaja Mia on behalf of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Senior Secretary Lokman Hossain Mia on behalf of the DGHS signed the MoU in the conference room of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. Senior officials of the two ministries were present on the occasion.

Earlier in 2018, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two organizations for three years. A heroic freedom fighter will get free medical services up to a maximum of Tk 75,000 from these hospitals. This includes medical advice, various tests, medicines, beds, diet and nursing services, according to the Ministry of Liberation War.

In order to provide free medical services to the heroic freedom fighters, the policy of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has been amended in 2015 and the policy of spending four percent of the leased income of the government hat-bazaars has been issued. It said the ministry would be able to provide free medical services to heroic freedom fighters up to Tk 75,000 in government hospitals at district and upazila level, medical colleges and 22 specialized hospitals.

Treatment at 22 specialized hospitals: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital, National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital, National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NITOR), National Kidney Institute & Hospital, National Heart Institute & Hospital, National Ophthalmology Institute & Hospital, National Chest Disease Institute & Hospital, National Institute Of Neurosciences Hospital, National Mental Health Institute & Hospital, Khulna Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Gojnaj, Eye Hospital and Training Institute, Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rangpur Medical College Hospital, MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet, Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal, National Heart Foundation in Dhaka and Birdem General Hospital.
