Dhaka, September 6: The amount of medical grant for the heroic freedom fighters increased from the lease income of the government markets. However, with this money, the scope of assistance to the freedom fighters has decreased.

This information has been revealed from the new 'Expenditure Policy on Expenditure of 4 percent of the lease income of the government markets for the welfare of the heroic freedom fighters, 2021'. Recently, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs formulated this policy.

In terms of reality, the policy has been updated. "Most of the heroic freedom fighters are now old. We are now focusing on treatment to help them. For this, the amount of grant for the treatment of heroic freedom fighters has been increased from Tk 50,000 to Tk 75,000," it said.

According to the policy, from now on, a heroic freedom fighter will get a maximum grant of Tk 75,000 for complex and general treatment at a government hospital. At the same time, in case of complex diseases, if more money is spent, an additional one-time financial grant of Tk 1,00,000 will be given.

According to the previous policy, a maximum of Tk 50,000 was given to the heroic freedom fighters for medical treatment from this sector.

According to the policy, the heroic freedom fighters were given assistance in five areas - housing or renovation, medical care, education, those affected by natural disasters, and marriage of daughters. The new policy will only help the heroic freedom fighters in these two sectors - medical and natural disasters.

In this regard, the Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War, Khwaja Mia, told Jago News, "In terms of reality, the policy has been updated. Most of the heroic freedom fighters are now old. We are now focusing on treatment to help them. For this, the amount of grant for the treatment of heroic freedom fighters has been increased from Tk 50,000 to Tk 75,000. Besides, there is an opportunity to pay Tk 1,00,000 at a time considering special needs."

According to the policy, the surviving indigent freedom fighters will apply to the concerned Upazila Nirbahi Officer or Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) (in case of metropolis) for construction or repair of houses damaged by natural calamities. Erosion pictures must be attached with the application.

After selecting the application, the grant sanction selection committee will determine the amount of loss and send a report to the secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs with recommendations for grant grant.

It has been mentioned in the policy that a maximum grant of Tk 50,000 can be given by the ministry in favor of the heroic freedom fighters for the reconstruction or repair of the houses damaged in the natural calamity.
