Dhaka, February 4: A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute under the National Heart Foundation to provide medical services to the heroic freedom fighters.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Ranjit Kumar Das and Secretary General of the National Heart Foundation Prof Dr Khandaker Abdul Awal (Rizvi) signed the MoU in the conference room of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Thursday (February 3). This memorandum of understanding will remain in force for the next five years.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Liberation War, a heroic freedom fighter will get free medical services up to a maximum of Tk 75,000 from the hospital. This includes medical advice, medicine, bed, diet and nursing services.

To provide free medical services to the heroic freedom fighters, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has issued a policy of spending 4 percent of the leased income of the government hat-bazaars. It said the ministry would be able to provide free medical services to freedom fighters up to Tk 75,000 at district and upazila level government hospitals, medical colleges and 22 specialized hospitals. The National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute is one of them.

Treatment in 22 specialized hospitals: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in Dhaka; Dhaka Medical College and Hospital; Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital; Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital; National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital; National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NITOR); National Kidney Institute and Hospital; National Heart Institute and Hospital; National Ophthalmology Institute and Hospital; National Chest Diseases Institute and Hospital; National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital; National Institute of Mental Health and Hospitals; Khulna Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital; Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute in Gopalganj; Chittagong Medical College Hospital; Mymensingh Medical College Hospital; Rajshahi Medical College Hospital; Rangpur Medical College Hospital; MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital-Sylhet; Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital-Barisal; National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute-Dhaka; And BIRDEM General Hospital-Dhaka.
