Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 21: President Md. Abdul Hamid has called upon all the ethnic groups of the world to be vocal in protecting their language and culture.

In a message on the occasion of 'Great Martyrs' Day' and 'International Mother Language Day 2022' on Monday (February 21), he said the world needs to be vocal in protecting the language and culture of all ethnic groups, including the development of mother tongue and culture.

On the occasion of the great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day on February 21, he said with deep respect to the Language Movement martyrs, including Rafiq, Salam, Barkat, Jabbar and Shafiur, that the great language movement was an unforgettable event in the national history of Bengalis.

He reverently remembers Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; Who led the All-Party State Language Struggle Council formed in 1948 to demand mother tongue and imprisoned. He also recalled all the language activists including the then Constituent Assembly member Dhirendranath Dutta, whose foresight, boundless sacrifice, courage, organizational skills and quick decision making resulted in the language movement reaching its climax on February 21, 1952, and the Bengali got the right to mother tongue.

He said, "The language movement was a movement to establish our mother tongue rights as well as to protect our own nationality, identity and cultural identity. Immortal Ekushey's indestructible consciousness has given us endless inspiration and boundless courage in our freedom, liberation struggle and liberation war. The recognition of mother tongue Bengali was achieved through the bloody path of February and in its continuation came the long-awaited independence of Bengalis in 1971, led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time."

The President said that February 21 was recognized as 'International Mother Language Day' by the United Nations in 1999 due to the initial initiative of some expatriate Bangladeshis and above all the spontaneous interest and dedicated efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This is one of the glorious achievements of Bengalis as a nation.

On the occasion of 'International Mother Language Day 2022', he conveyed his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the various language speaking peoples and ethnic groups of the world, including Bengal.
