President, PM pay tributes to Language Movement martyrs at Shaheed Minar

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 21: In the early hours of Amar Ekushey, tributes were paid with flowers on behalf of President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the central Shaheed Minar.

At 12:01 am on Sunday, tribute was paid to the 52's Language Movement martyrs first on behalf of the President and then on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Major General SM Salahuddin Islam, Military Secretary to the President, paid homage on behalf of the President and Major General Naqib Ahmed Chowdhury, Military Secretary to the Prime Minister, paid tribute on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Later, Sergeant at Arms Commodore, Mia Mohammad Naeem Rahman, paid tribute at the Shaheed Minar on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

A delegation of the Awami League then laid a wreath at the main altar for the language martyrs. The delegation was led by presidium members of the party Begum Matia Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Nahid, Shahjahan Khan, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Joint General Secretary and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud, Office Secretary Biplob Barua, Forest and Environmental Secretary Delwar Hossain and others.

Later, Assistant Sergeant at Arms Golam Shahriar Talukdar laid a wreath on behalf of Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia. Afterwards, wreaths were laid on behalf of the Education Minister and the chiefs of the three Armed Forces.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the President and the Prime Minister could not be physically present at the central Shaheed Minar.
