Proud to be a freedom fighter's son: DSCC Mayor Taposh

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, January 31:�Mentioning that he is always proud to be a son of a freedom fighter, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, said as the son of the heroic freedom fighter Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani, he is committed to be by the freedom fighters' side for his lifetime.

He made the remarks while virtually attending the�50th anniversary of the surrender of 146 armed guerrilla freedom fighters to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Basabo Maidan held at the seminar room of Basabo Shaheed Alauddin Park on Sunday (January 30).

Expressing hope for establishing Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) as a freedom fighter friendly city corporation, Mayor Taposh said, “Our freedom fighters and the next generation of freedom fighters, we will continue to work towards building a golden Bengal till our last breath. As your child, I am determined to always be by your side and to establish Dhaka South City Corporation as a freedom fighter friendly city corporation."

He said he was hopeful that the heroic freedom fighters and their next generation would contribute to building a better Bangladesh as announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The freedom fighters not only brought independence under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, they are still contributing to the formation of the country under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the Father of the Nation. In its continuation, the freedom fighters and their children will continue to work unitedly to build a better Bangladesh.

At the event, 111 living heroic guerrilla freedom fighters and the families of five martyrs were felicitated.

Former Acting Secretary General of Muktijoddha Sangsad Shafiqul Bahar Majumder and others were present at the programme which was conducted by�heroic freedom fighter Md. Shamsuzzaman Babul and presided over by Commander M.A. Rashid.
