Thousands gather at Shaheed Minar to pay homage to Language Movement martyrs

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 21: Thousands of people gathered at the central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of the great 'Martyrs' Day' and 'International Mother Language Day'. People have come in groups with flowers to pay their respects to the martyrs of the great Language Movement.

At 12:01 am on Sunday, tributes were paid at the Shaheed Minar on behalf of the President and the Prime Minister. After the members of various state parties and organizations paid homage, the premises of Shaheed Minar was opened for the general public. General people are paying their respects to the language martyrs at the Shaheed Bedi following the Covid protocols.

Flowers and placards were decorated in the hands of many who came to pay homage to the memory of the martyrs. Many have appeared on the altar in memory of the 1952's language martyrs wearing black clothes.

This time too, everyone who is coming to the Shaheed Minar has to obey the special warning of the pandemic. Everyone was seen wearing a mask and following a specific routemap.

To main physical distancing, Dhaka University has announced that a maximum of five representatives from each organisation or institution and a maximum of two persons at the individual level will be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar for laying wreaths.

In the early hours, the students waited in front of Jagannath Hall at the Palashi junction with banners, posters, bouquets of flowers as directed. When the main gate of the Shaheed Minar was opened to the public at around 12:30 am, they entered the Shaheed Minar in groups and individually.
