Dhaka, February 10: The titles of four freedom fighters of Bangabandhu, including BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, are being canceled. The 72nd meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka) on Tuesday recommended the cancellation of their state titles.

"Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Mosleh Uddin are the self-confessed murderers of Bangabandhu," said Shahjahan Khan, a Jamuka member and chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the liberation war ministry. Ziaur Rahman is behind this murder. At the Jamuka meeting, it was recommended to cancel the title of freedom fighter.

After independence, Ziaur Rahman was given the title of 'Bir Uttam' for his contribution to the war of liberation. Besides, Shariful Haque Dalim is 'Bir Uttam'; Nur Chowdhury got the title of 'Bir Bikram', Rashed Chowdhury got the title of 'Bir Pratik' and Mosleh Uddin got the title of 'Bir Pratik'.

As per the recommendation of Jamuka, now their title will be canceled and gazette will be issued.

On 15 August 1975, Bangabandhu and his family were brutally killed by members of the army. At present, the five murderers of Bangabandhu are fleeing to different countries of the world.

Meanwhile, Rashed Chowdhury is working in the United States and Nur Chowdhury is working in Canada. Besides, Shariful Haque Dalim, Colonel Rashid, Muslehuddin Risaldar are absconding in different countries.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq said at noon on Wednesday (February 10) at Kurmitola General Hospital that there was no legal complication in revoking the freedom fighter title of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

The law minister said, "If someone is a freedom fighter, then it is normal for him to have the title of freedom fighter. It so happened that the freedom fighters have ruined the spirit of the liberation war of Bangladesh by using their names. I left the question to the people as to whether he has any right to the title."

On the other hand, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has termed Ziaur Rahman's decision to cancel the 'Bir Uttam' title as a 'scandal to the liberation war'.

The BNP secretary general, who is in quarantine in Singapore for treatment, told reporters by telephone on Wednesday (February 10th).

Fakhrul said, "I think the decision of the National Freedom Fighters Council to cancel the title is completely politically vindictive. I never think those who have taken this decision have respect for the liberation war. They are against independence, against the liberation war and against the totally heroic freedom fighters. This decision has tarnished the image of the liberation war.
