India-Bangladesh operate flights under 'Air Bubble' agreement

Dhaka, October 28: India's air service with Bangladesh resumed on Wednesday after being closed for eight months amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy inaugurated the event.

Touhid-ul-Ahsan, director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said the US-Bangla Airlines flight resumed on Wednesday morning after a long hiatus.

According to US-Bangla Airlines, under the 'Air Bubble' agreement between Bangladesh and India, they have started operating Dhaka-Chennai-Dhaka, Chittagong-Chennai-Chittagong and Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka routes.

He said flights to Chennai and Kolkata were being operated with 164-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft, adding that 23 passengers flew from Dhaka to Kolkata and 32 to Chennai on Wednesday morning. On the other hand, 68 passengers have returned to Dhaka on two flights from Kolkata and Chennai.

In a press release, US-Bangla Airlines said its flight would leave Dhaka for Kolkata at 9.45 am six days a week except Monday and land in Kolkata at 10.15 am local time. It will leave Kolkata at 11 am local time and land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12.30 pm.

Besides, the flight will leave Dhaka for Chennai at 10.30 am every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and land at Chennai at 12.40 pm local time. It will leave Chennai for Dhaka at 1.30 pm on the same day and reach at 4.40 pm. US-Bangla will also fly from Dhaka to Chittagong via Chennai and from Chennai to Chittagong via Dhaka every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines will also launch regular passenger flights to various destinations in India this month.

The state-owned airline said in a press release that they would launch the first flight on the Dhaka-Delhi-Dhaka route from October 29, followed by regular passenger flights on the Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka route on November 1 and the Dhaka-Chennai-Dhaka route on November 15.

Biman's managing director Mohammad Mokabbir Hossain said on Wednesday afternoon that Biman would operate three flights a week on Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai routes.
