Dhaka, Dec 30: Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said as a close friend and partner, India wants to see peaceful elections in Bangladesh.

He said India will support the dream of Bangladesh as a stable, peaceful and progressive nation. He said this in response to a question at the weekly media briefing on Friday.

Arindam Bagchi said that the people of Bangladesh will decide their own future through voting. Elections are an internal matter of Bangladesh and we believe that the people of Bangladesh will decide their own future.

Referring to the recent allegations by the BNP spokesperson that India is directly supporting the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government and influencing the upcoming elections, the spokesperson refused to comment on the matter and said, "We do not want to comment on the policies of any third country."

When asked about the recent much talked about visit of the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, to India, Bagchi said that he has seen media reports about the US Ambassador's visit to India.

He said, "It could be a personal visit. But I don't know details about it. So, I have nothing to say right now."
