Dhaka, October 30: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy has said that India is keen to work on a priority basis to strengthen partnership in Bangladesh's economic development drive.

Therefore, there is an opportunity to take forward the ongoing trend of industrialization in Bangladesh by utilizing the long experience of Indian entrepreneurs in the automobile, light engineering, agricultural machinery and Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients (API) industries.

India will act as a complement, not a competitor, in the development of these sectors. As a result, both countries will benefit economically.

The Indian High Commissioner expressed this interest during a meeting with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at the Industries Ministry on Thursday (October 29th).

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral trade and commerce, increasing exports of Bangladeshi products to India, expanding land port-centric trade, easing existing export problems, mutual recognition of product quality certificates and other issues.

During the meeting, the Indian High Commissioner lauded Bangladesh's recent economic growth and development activities.

Stating that India is keen to work with Bangladesh on the basis of greater economic partnership, he said that in order for foreign products to enter the Indian market, it is mandatory for some accredited laboratories to obtain quality certification as per the prevailing laws of that country. By adopting this certificate, food and non-food items of Bangladesh can be easily exported to the Indian market.

He therefore advised to strengthen the linkage of BSTI with the concerned quality institutions of India. At the same time, he said India would assist in launching mobile testing laboratory services for product quality testing within Bangladesh.

The Industries Minister said the friendly relations between the two countries could be further deepened through the growth of bilateral trade and trade. The present government is sincerely working to increase the scope of trade with India. If the scope of trade increases, the existing problems related to export will be solved easily. There is an opportunity to use India's experience in the development of emerging industries in Bangladesh.

He described the Indian High Commissioner's interest in exchanging experiences and complementing each other in Bangladesh's automobile, light engineering, agricultural machinery and API industries as very positive. To this end, he suggested identifying areas of cooperation through dialogue and exchange of views between experts from both countries.
